Golf in Pennard

views across Pennard golf course

Golf in Pennard really is in many ways a golfer’s dream at Pennard golf club, known as ‘the links in the sky’ is aptly named, standing on clifftops and with spectacular views beyond towards Three Cliffs and edged by Pennard castle.  It is a most popular course and attracts many visitors each year, described as ‘one of the best links in Britain and Ireland’

Views towards the club

The course is described to have ‘a bit of everything’ and will certainly set a good challenge. There are several golf membership levels and option to suite every need.

Adding to its charm, the course hosts an ensemble of different animals, including cows which roam freely over its grounds throughout the year!

Adding to this the picturesque Pennard castle at one end, it really is a most unique course and the views from the castle have been voted as some of the ‘best in the uk’

The golf club is well-placed also for fine views – especially sunsets!  And from Pobbles restaurant you can enjoy the evening sun and dine in style with great cuisine or just visit for a tea or coffee.

There is a decking area where you can sit and look out towards Three Cliffs bay. And you can also view the first tee and watch fellow golfers. The restaurant seats up to eighty people and is open seven days a week. You don’t have to be a member to use the cafe (however there are certain benefits from being a member such as discounts in the cafe).

Three Cliffs Bay

Three Cliffs Bay’s characterful three cliffs are captivating and unique. Walk alongside and feel dwarfed b

y their presence. You can even walk underneath through a cave of rock pools, where emerging each side is like a different world – one fringed by delicious waves and the other a sandy beach that stretches miles inland.

As a place to get away from it all it can hardly be beaten, especially as access issues mean that cars are unable to get within reach so visitors really are restricted to visiting on foot. This means that it never gets as busy as other more accessible beaches, preserving its unique landscape as wild, rugged and untamed.

You have to keep a look out for the tides here as there is an ever-changing landscape and the sea comes right in, engulfing the base of the ‘three cliffs’.

What to watch out for

Check out the wildlife and sea life here as this area is unique in being National Trust property and a Nature Reserve. Three Cliffs Bay can hardly be beaten for those that love to watch birds and wildlife, sea creatures and shells. You also have the river winding its way through the valley home to many birds who inhabit the woods, river bank and mudflats.

The coastal walks and unspoiled countryside surround small picturesque villages such as Southgate. Local amenities include: shops, cafes as well as the Gower Heritage Centre,

Three Cliffs Bay is part of the ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is one of Gower’s most photographed beaches and it has been nominated as one of Britain’s best beach.

Three Cliffs Beach

A spectacular shoreline of sand dunes, salt marsh and of course, the signature three limestone cliffs. A particularly photogenic part of the Gower Coast Path and a great spot to stop for a picnic. The area is a real walker’s paradise with with its rich varied terrain, dramatic landscape and breathtaking views. Three Cliffs Bay is part of the National Trust and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is also a nature reserve. On a practical note, it is a good idea to take a picnic with you, and also note that there are no public toilets at Three Cliffs itself.
Stay safe, this is one of Gower’s most beautiful beaches, but can be wild too – watch out for strong tides and currents at all times. Because of this, it is advised against swimming at Three Cliffs Bay. (NB the next bays along – Tor Bay and Oxwich Bay are both good for swimming and water sports)
